"Project Access started in Buncombe County (Asheville, NC) in 1996.  The physicians of the Buncombe County Medical Society realized the need for access to the full continuum of care for all low-income, uninsured residents of the community. While physicians were already seeing patients for free in their practices or on-call in the hospital emergency room, the hassle and heartache in trying to obtain specialty procedures and medications was an obstacle that was both unnecessary and impeding to their patients health."
-Excerpt from Physicians Innovation Network or PIN

Project Access is a non-profit collaboration of local physicians, practices, clinics, and hospitals who donate specialty care services on behalf of the uninsured.  Project Access is NOT health insurance; we do NOT reimburse
for any services rendered.
Although Project Access patients receive the majority of their care free of charge, they must enter into a Contract of Care which includes both general and specific patient responsibilities.

Appalachian Mountain Project Access is one of four Project Access programs in the State of Tennessee,
Hamilton County Project Access
Knoxville Area Project Access
and Bridges to Care Plus
are the others.

In East Tennessee, we are fortunate to work with our area's two premier hospital networks Mountains States Health Alliance www.msha.com and The Wellmont Health System www.wellmont.org which provide the diagnostics, surgery space, and hospitalization required by our patients.
